Meet the staff of Accessible Languages, Inc.
Fran Smithson, President of ALI, has been in the field or working with visually impaired and hearing impaired individuals for over 20 years. Fran was employed by the Department of Human Resources (Raleigh Lions Clinic for the Blind - Evaluation Unit) and became very passionate in the field of deaf-blind. She trained at the Helen Keller Center in Sands Pointe, New York, and to this days says it was one of the most rewarding experiences she has had in her profession. She later attended Gallaudet University in Washington, DC, for their interpreter training program and also entered the Interpreter Training Program in UT under the direction of Marie Griffin. Her goal for ALI is to talk all languages and, with the help of qualified and dedicated interpreters, to be able to build a bridge of communication for us all.
Sheila Best has joined Accessible Languages, Inc as Executive Director. In this position, Sheila will oversee the daily operations of the firm and serve directly under Fran Smithson/CEO. While in this position she will also be a liaison between clients and staff, building and maintaining a positive working environment. Sheila is a native of Louisburg, N.C., and has over 13 years of experience in office management. She resides in Raleigh with her husband, James, and two daughters, Brittany and Briana. Sheila has a special way of empowering, inspiring and encouraging everyone she meets. She feels that everyone has a God given gift, and believes that gift will make room for you. Sheila’s motto is “Be Who You Are, and Be Good At It”.
